Summary/Abstract: Wisdom (sapientia – sapida scientia, knowledge especially relishing or exquisite) is a polysemantic term. Referents of „wisdom” are different kinds of human knowledge and the ability to acquire or use it. With regard for the sources, wisdom can be innate if it is achieved by natural cognitive ways, or supernatural if it is gained thanks to divine help. When experienced people know only that something takes place, wise people understand why it does. A wise person should know the reasons of everything and it is something that makes him/ her different to a reasonable specialist. A pundit will look for an answer to the question: why – thanks to what – because of what? The things which are the answers to the above questions were described as arche, reasons (causes), elements (components). The ultimate result of knowledge is wisdom: it is not only knowing the reasons but these reasons are ultimate. Knowledge is necessary to survive, but to live in a good and beautiful way it is necessary to have wisdom.
