THE PETCHENEGS FROM BANAT. FROM MILITARY COMMUNITIES TO THE STATUS OF NOBLEMEN

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to identify the status of the communities of Petchenegs settled on the territory of historical Banat. The paper is structured as follows: - the state of research regarding the status of Petchenegs; - the analysis of the artifacts which can be attributed to Petchenegs and their value as ethnical indicators; - a discussion regarding the status of the noblemen of Petcheneg origin and their estates; - the analysis of the relations between the communities of Petchenegs and between Petchenegs and other communities from the Hungarian Kingdom; - the status of the Petcenegs settled in the mountainous area of Banat.
