Summary/Abstract: The history of uric acid goes back to ancient Egypt. This seemingly innocuous substance was the cause of a painful, then incurable disease - gout, calledby historians the disease of the rich. Over time, uric acid has become the object of interest and research of many scientists. The discovery of this chemicalcompound was only an introduction to the assessment of its metabolism andimpact on human health. Contemporary research has allowed to investigate itsrelationship with the dysfunction and senescence of the vascular endothelium, and thus with the development of a civilization disease such as arterial hypertension. For many years unknown and underestimated, today it is one of theimportant, independent and modifiable risk factors accompanying cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the work was to present a concise historical outline ofthis interesting chemical compound.
