Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the research on song (mainly directions and methods) conducted in France within the sub-discipline called la cantologie. The text allows for noticing possible borrowings and inspirations for the Polish school of song studies, as well as indicating arguments for establishing such a research sub-discipline on the basis of experiences of researchers from the Seine.
